11 Years of Make in India: Boosting Economic Growth

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the ‘Make in India’ initiative on its 11th anniversary, stating it has significantly contributed to India’s economic growth and self-reliance. During an event on Thursday, Modi highlighted how this pivotal program has fostered innovation and job creation across various sectors.

‘It is gladdening to see how 11 years of Make in India has contributed to furthering economic strength and laying the foundation for Aatmanirbharta. It has encouraged innovation and job creation across sectors,’ Modi posted on X.

Launched on this day 11 years ago, the ‘Make in India’ initiative aimed to energize India’s growth and harness the potential of its entrepreneurs. Modi noted that this initiative has provided an impetus for Indian entrepreneurs, creating a global impact.

Addressing attendees at the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show-2025, PM Modi stressed the importance of boosting indigenous production. He affirmed the government’s commitment to support stakeholders, emphasizing the vision of a ‘Swadeshi’ economy in India’s ongoing journey.

‘The government is putting a strong emphasis on Make in India manufacturing. We want everything from chip to ship to be manufactured in India; for this, we are focusing on your ease of doing business. The government abolished more than 40,000 compliances, and more than a thousand laws were decriminalised. We are standing with you shoulder-to-shoulder,’ PM Modi said, addressing the business community present at the event.

Marking 11 years of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal praised the government’s achievements in indigenous defense production. ‘The world is a witness to India’s defense manufacturing strength today! Guided by the vision of PM Narendra Modi, the nation has scripted landmark achievements in indigenous defense production, reflecting the success of the Make in India initiative,’ Goyal stated on X.

Today also witnessed India successfully launching the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile from a rail-based mobile launcher system, showcasing the advancements in defense technology. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the teams involved in the successful launch.

As the ‘Make in India’ initiative celebrates 11 years, it stands as a testament to the government’s drive towards self-reliance, innovation, and economic fortification. The focus on indigenous production reflects broader ambitions to position India as a global manufacturing hub.
