On Monday, police recovered over one kilogram of charas and arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations conducted in Shopian and Budgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
In Shopian, police acted on specific intelligence, leading to significant recovery. The Police Station Zainapora registered FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act and secured a search warrant from the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court.
A team led by the Station House Officer of Zainapora, along with the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, raided the home of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Humhuna Nagbal. During the operation, police found a kilogram of a charas-like substance along with a grinder machine suspected to be used for processing the contraband.
“During the search, we seized one kilogram of charas and the grinder machine. The accused remains at large, and police are making efforts to apprehend him,” a police spokesperson stated.
In addition to the Shopian operation, another police team from Police Post Wachi intercepted Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh at a checkpoint located in Naghard Wachi. Sheikh, a resident of Pombia Kulgam, was found with 101 grams of charas-like substance.
This incident prompted the registration of a separate case, FIR No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act, at Police Station Zainapora. Investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, police in Budgam apprehended another alleged drug peddler during routine checks at Checkpora Kralpora. The suspect, identified as Moomin Qadir Dhobi from Dharambugh Kralpora, was caught carrying 112 grams of charas-like substance.
A case has been registered against him as well, under FIR No. 173/2025 under the NDPS Act, at Police Station Chadoora. Further investigations into this matter are also underway.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police continue their vigorous effort to combat drug trafficking in the region, aiming to curtail the menace that impacts numerous families and communities. Authorities stress that community cooperation is vital in addressing the drugs issue, encouraging citizens to provide information that helps police enforce drug laws effectively.
