RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasized the doctrine of vyakti nirman (character building), during the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) centenary event in Nagpur on Thursday. Despite repeated temptations to engage in politics, the organization has steadfastly focused on its core mission for the last hundred years.
Speaking to swayamsevaks at the annual Vijayadashami function, Bhagwat reflected on the organization’s century-long journey, expressing that his words conveyed the essence of their shared experiences. He urged graduates of the RSS to remain committed to building character, viewing it as fundamental in promoting sustainable social change.
“Reforms in the global order must evolve gradually, to prevent chaos,” Bhagwat asserted. He posited that India should project a development model rooted in dharma that offers a holistic vision for the world.
Providing clarity on dharma, Bhagwat moved beyond the simplistic definitions associated with worship and traditions. He described it as a connecting principle that binds humanity, essential for fostering integrity, selflessness, and social leadership.
According to Bhagwat, the RSS’s agenda involves running shakhas and continuously advocating for the noble values of service and sacrifice. “The right path to sustainable social change is vyakti nirman,” he stated firmly.
Highlighting India’s rich diversity—its myriad languages, faiths, and lifestyles—Bhagwat articulated a vision where pluralism is celebrated as a national strength. “All communities, including those practicing foreign religions, contribute to the larger Indian identity,” he said, underscoring the necessity of harmony and mutual respect.
Bhagwat did not shy away from addressing social issues. He criticized instances of hooliganism and the divisive attempts aimed at communal discord. He called upon law enforcement agencies to take impartial action while insisting society, especially youth, must remain vigilant against disturbances to peace.
“It is imperative to safeguard harmony in our society,” Bhagwat encouraged, urging collective action from the youth to promote a peaceful coexistence. By calling attention to these pressing matters, Bhagwat reinforced the RSS’s commitment to shaping a morally upright and socially responsible citizenry.
