JKPCC Chief Tariq Hameed Karra Demands Judicial Probe into Leh Violence

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra demanded an impartial judicial inquiry into the Leh violence of September 24, in which four people tragically lost their lives. He emphasized the necessity for a thorough investigation to be conducted by a sitting High Court judge, or if that is unfeasible, a retired judge of integrity.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Karra stated, “Whatever happened in Leh should not be repeated, but there must be an inquiry. If a sitting High Court judge is not available on a fast track, then the probe should be entrusted to a credible retired judge.” This statement highlights the urgency and importance of accountability in the case.

Karra’s call for a judicial probe into the Leh violence comes as tensions escalate in the region. The Congress leader firmly believes that an impartial inquiry can ensure justice for the victims and their families. He urges the government to take swift action, underscoring that justice must prevail.

Earlier during the day, Karra paid heartfelt tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries. He reflected on their leadership, ideology, and commitment to a self-reliant India, asserting that Gandhian philosophy continues to resonate and inspire globally, even being recognized at the United Nations.

Karra extended his comments to the political context in Jammu and Kashmir. Regarding the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, he remarked that decisions about seat sharing and alliances will rest with the Congress leadership at the central level. He noted that senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh has already been appointed as an observer for the elections.

The congress leader also addressed the situation concerning Independent legislator Mehraj Malik. He advocated for Malik’s participation in the Assembly, stating, “Even Engineer Rashid was allowed to participate in Parliament while lodged in Tihar Jail. By the same analogy, Mehraj Malik should also be allowed.” This statement reinforces Karra’s commitment to democratic principles and the rights of legislators.

The JKPCC continues to push for reform and justice, resonating with a broader aspiration among the populace for accountability in governance. Karra’s demand for a judicial inquiry into the Leh violence represents not only a call for justice but a reflection of the community’s longing for peace and stability in the region.

As the situation develops, Karra and the JKPCC remain vigilant, advocating for the rights of citizens and ensuring that tragedies like the Leh violence do not go unanswered. The call for justice echoes loudly among the people as they anxiously await the government’s response to these pressing issues.
