Siraj, Bumrah rattle Windies; Rahul steadies India on Day 1

Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah ran riot with the red ball to bundle out West Indies for just 162, setting up India’s dominance on the opening day of the first Test on Thursday.

Siraj (4/40) led from the front, striking thrice in the morning with a fiery spell before returning to add one more after lunch, while Bumrah (3/32) complemented him with trademark yorkers and relentless accuracy. Kuldeep Yadav (2/25) and Washington Sundar (1/9) chipped in as the Windies batting faltered, with Justin Greaves (32), Shai Hope (26) and skipper Roston Chase (24) offering brief resistance.

In reply, India closed at 121/2, just 41 runs behind. KL Rahul was the star of the evening session, grinding out a patient yet assured 53* off 114 balls, supported by skipper Shubman Gill (18*). Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal made a brisk 36 before edging Jayden Seales, while debutant B Sai Sudharsan (7) fell cheaply to Chase.

Despite an early wobble, Rahul ensured India remained untroubled, pacing his innings with calm determination. With rain causing a brief interruption, India still ended firmly on top, eyeing control of this two-Test series from the outset.
