Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, inaugurated the Annual Sports Meet-2025 at the Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar today. This two-day event takes place at the Boys Hostel playground in Bemina, showcasing the essential role of sports in healthcare professionals’ lives.
Addressing attendees, Minister Itoo discussed the vital connection between physical and mental well-being among healthcare professionals and its influence on healthcare quality. She praised GMC Srinagar for organizing this event, reinforcing the notion that sports and recreational activities are crucial for stress management.
Discussions during the event included a proposal from Minister Itoo to enhance facilities at the Boys Hostel playground. She urged the GMC administration to focus on improving infrastructure to foster increased student participation in extracurricular activities.
The Annual Sports Meet, planned under the astute guidance of Chairman Sports Committee Dr. Salim Iqbal, features diverse sporting and recreational events. Participants engage in popular sports like cricket, volleyball, football, badminton, and table tennis, alongside traditional games such as carrom and tug of war. Track and field events also add to the excitement, showcasing races like the 100m, 200m, 400m, and various throwing events including shot put, javelin throw, and discus throw.
Moreover, fun games like the matka race, sack race, and spoon and egg race invigorate the atmosphere, promoting camaraderie and well-being among medical professionals and students.
