Mathura police have arrested a man named Sunit, alias “Katua,” for allegedly issuing a death threat to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath through social media. The arrest took place at his home in Nagla Hardayal on Friday evening following alarming posts that went viral.
In the disturbing video, Sunit brandished a pistol and threatened to shoot the Chief Minister by September 25, alongside claims that he would take his own life. He displayed a magazine containing nine bullets while vowing to “fire all nine,” raising serious concerns about his mental state.
Sunit claimed he had previously lodged a complaint with the Chief Minister’s office but felt ignored, driving him to resort to such extreme measures. This unhinged behavior is alarming to local residents, who have reported him as increasingly unstable and expressing his personal struggles publicly.
When police arrived at Sunit’s residence to arrest him, he locked himself inside and opened fire from the third floor. He issued threats to shoot himself during the standoff. After nearly an hour of negotiations, authorities managed to overpower him and take him into custody. Police seized a pistol along with live cartridges, intensifying concerns around illegal arms possession.
Local residents have described Sunit’s recent behavior as erratic, suggesting that he had been under significant mental stress. His alarming threats sparked an immediate response from law enforcement, who are now investigating how he obtained the firearm and the specific motives behind his threats against the Chief Minister.
Authorities have registered a case against Sunit under multiple serious charges, including criminal intimidation, attempt to incite violence, and illegal possession of arms. The police are committed to ensuring public safety and taking appropriate action against such threats.
Investigation into the circumstances leading to this incident is ongoing, as the police work to understand the broader context of Sunit’s mental health and motivations. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers posed by social media as a platform for expressing violent intentions.
As the situation unfolds, the Mathura police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any threats they observe online, reinforcing their commitment to combatting violence and ensuring a safe environment for all citizens.
