Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conducted an aerial survey of flood-hit villages in Kathua district on Thursday, October 12, 2023. He interacted with residents who suffered losses due to the natural calamity.
During the survey, Abdullah visited Duggain village in Billawar where flooding damaged numerous homes. Officials confirmed that he prioritized assessing the situation comprehensively, aiming to understand the extent of damage.
Following his aerial assessment, the Chief Minister chaired a meeting with various district administration officers. He emphasized the urgency of providing immediate relief to the affected population and urged officials to coordinate effectively in their response efforts.
“We will ensure that all possible assistance is provided to the flood victims,” Abdullah assured during the meeting. He stressed the need for a swift relief package, directing the administration to expedite the distribution of aid and support services to those impacted.
The Chief Minister’s efforts come in the wake of substantial rainfall that led to severe flooding across parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Kathua and Reasi, affecting thousands. Abdullah is also scheduled to assess the damage in the Mahore area of Reasi district, to evaluate further needs.
His proactive approach seeks to address the challenges faced by residents, who are struggling to recover from the losses incurred during the floods. Experts estimate that hundreds of families have been displaced, and immediate interventions are critical for their welfare.
Government officials reported a significant rise in assistance requests from affected areas. Local authorities are mobilizing teams to provide on-the-ground support and rehabilitation. Abdullah’s visit has raised hopes among the residents who await timely assistance and rebuilding measures.
In the last week, the region experienced unusually heavy rainfall, leading to unprecedented floods. The Chief Minister’s aerial survey and direct engagement with affected communities mark a crucial step in restoring normalcy.
As the situation evolves, the administration aims to implement long-term strategies for flood management to mitigate future risks. Community leaders have expressed appreciation for the swift action of the government but emphasize that consistency in aid delivery remains vital.
Abdullah’s commitment to assisting flood victims resonates deeply within the affected communities, reinforcing the government’s role in disaster response and recovery.
