Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the youth of Jammu and Kashmir for their immense strength and highlighted the significant boost in trade movement from the Valley due to newly introduced train services. During an interactive session with progressive farmers in New Delhi, Modi spoke about various government initiatives, including the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana.
Launched with a budget of ₹24,000 crore, this new scheme aims to enhance agricultural productivity, promote crop diversification, and support sustainable farming practices in 100 selected districts across India.
Among the farmers present was Fayaz Ahmad Ganaie from Ganderbal district. He shared his success story of transforming his agricultural business into a profitable venture with 14 employees, crediting Modi’s government for the support he received. “I’ve come from Kashmir. I saw your progressive schemes for farmers and availed their benefits. Today, I have 14 employees and earn around ₹15 lakh in profits annually,” Ganaie told the Prime Minister.
In response, PM Modi acknowledged the entrepreneurial spirit of Kashmir’s youth, saying, “The youth of Jammu and Kashmir have immense strength. Now, with the train services, goods have been moving fast from the Kashmir valley.”
The introduction of goods train services has facilitated direct transportation from New Delhi to Kashmir. For the first time, agricultural products like apples and other fruits can now be transported directly to and from Srinagar, improving logistics and reducing transit times.
During the event, Modi urged farmers to gradually embrace natural farming practices. He encouraged them to experiment with small portions of their land and witness the benefits of these innovative farming methods. Several farmers recounted their positive experiences following previous interactions with the Prime Minister.
A woman farmer also shared her appreciation for the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, describing the annual ₹6,000 assistance as a “blessing” that enabled her to purchase seeds and prepare her fields promptly. Farmers showcased innovations such as aeroponically grown “Jain potato” and value-added garlic products, including paste and powder.
Highlighting the recent agricultural achievements, PM Modi noted that over the past 11 years:
- Agricultural exports have nearly doubled.
- Foodgrain output has risen by 90 million metric tonnes.
- Fruit and vegetable production increased by 64 million metric tonnes.
- India ranks first in milk production and is the second-largest fish producer globally.
- Honey production has doubled since 2014.
He also informed that more than 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) have been established to strengthen farmer cooperation and improve their market access.
PM Modi explained that the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana draws inspiration from the successful Aspirational Districts Model. He emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering farmers through innovation, technology, and inclusive growth.
