Naib Subedar Ravinder Singh, a distinguished shooter from the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) in Mhow, captured the gold medal in the Men’s 50m Free Pistol event at the ISSF World Championships held in Egypt. His victory ignited celebrations in his hometown of Bishnah, where he received a hero’s welcome from thousands of supporters.
Competing amongst 47 elite shooters, Ravinder displayed remarkable composure and skill. He started his final series with a score of 93, but quickly turned the tide. With subsequent remarkable scores of 98, 94, 95, 93, and a final 96, he achieved an impressive total of 569 points. This performance secured his position ahead of South Korea’s Kim Cheongyong, who finished with 556 points, and Individual Neutral Athlete Anton Aristarkhov, also at 556, who took the silver and bronze medals respectively.
Ravinder’s journey to the podium became even more commendable considering he had not trained for over two weeks due to the recent birth of his daughter. He managed only 4–5 days of practice before entering the championship, showcasing extraordinary discipline and mental strength. His win marks a significant achievement in Indian shooting sports.
His **personal excellence** also contributed to India winning a silver medal in the team event. Alongside teammates Kamaljeet (scoring 540) and Yogesh Kumar (scoring 537), the three shooters finished with a combined score of 1646 points, just shy of Korea’s gold count.
Earlier this year, Ravinder was also a silver medallist at the National Games, solidifying his position as one of India’s top athletes. Expressing heartfelt gratitude, he stated, “It’s not my personal achievement but for all those who stood behind me. I am thankful to my family and the Army for their support.” This sentiment resonated with many, highlighting the importance of community and support in achieving personal success.
Former MLA Ashwani Kumar Sharma praised Ravinder, celebrating him as a role model for the younger generation. His achievements inspired hope and ambition amongst local youth, igniting a passion for sports and discipline.
The streets of Bishnah overflowed with well-wishers eager to celebrate his triumph. It was a vibrant gathering, and hundreds of residents waved flags and cheered, demonstrating the local pride in Ravinder’s accomplishments on an international stage.
Ravinder Singh’s victory at the ISSF World Championships not only enhances his personal accolades but also shines a national spotlight on India’s capabilities in shooting sports. As he continues to inspire through his resilience and dedication, the nation eagerly anticipates his future performances.
