The Indian Railways Department has exciting news for travelers in Jammu and Kashmir. Plans are underway to extend the Vande Bharat Express service from Jammu to Srinagar, offering a convenient travel option for locals and visitors.
Divisional Railway Manager for Jammu, Vivek Kumar, confirmed this development. He stated that the authorities are working diligently to prepare for the expansion of this semi-high-speed train service. Delays arose primarily from severe damage to railway tracks due to monsoon floods and incessant rainfall.
“We are dedicated to this project. The delay occurred because of massive damage to tracks due to floods and heavy rains. But, we assure everyone that this service will be available to the people of Jammu sooner or later,” Kumar shared with reporters. He emphasized that restoration work is progressing rapidly, and officials will launch the service once they receive the necessary safety clearances.
Introduced earlier this year, the Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat service has already transformed the travel experience, significantly reducing the journey time between the Valley and the base camp of the revered Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. The upcoming extension to Jammu is set to further enhance regional connectivity, benefiting not only daily commuters but also pilgrims and tourists exploring the region.
Upon its operational commencement, the Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat service is expected to run daily. This service will provide improved travel comfort and a reduced journey time compared to existing rail and road options. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader aims to boost tourism and transportation infrastructure in the Union Territory.
The Vande Bharat Express, known for its modern amenities and faster travel time, has garnered appreciation since its launch. The extension aims to facilitate seamless travel, making it easier for visitors to access the stunning landscapes of Kashmir and the sacred sites that attract numerous pilgrims each year. The authorities encourage travelers to stay updated on the service’s progress, as the official launch date will be announced post completion of all safety protocols.
